It starts off as a schmaltzy Hallmark movie, then we get a PG version of the boot camp scene in Full Metal Jacket, and then there's the battle sequences that have more in common with Tropic Thunder than actual war movies.

The way the violence in Hacksaw Ridge is styled is in direct opposition to the message of the film; unless you think Christianity and faith are supposed to celebrate death and destruction.
